What is this blog about?

The goal of our blog, JoRafCinema, is to provide an exclusive audience with movie reviews by J&R. These reviews are naturally written in a subjective tone. For an objective movie description, you can just read your newspaper, the IMDB page, etc. This blog is about impressions and feelings of two assiduous moviegoers and DVD/Blu-ray viewers, who consider movies are more than entertainment, an art form.
A further intention of this blog is to provide you with articles about events (e.g. movie festivals) and about other collateral topics (e.g. home cinema, cameras, movie production).
We'll be very glad if, after a while, you get interested in one of the movies which are commented here in the blog, or in the atmosphere of a certain festival!

Who are we?

Information about us can be found on our profile pages (raf and jkolb52), accessible also via the Link on the down-right column at the main blog page.

How to leave a comment?

There are comment boxes under each post. Feel free to use them to tell us if you liked the post, if it made you want to watch a movie or if you have seen the movie and have an opinon of your own about it. In other words, if you want to comment, please do so! We will appreciate any kind of feedback. You can leave general comments about the blog on this FAQ page.

What are the posts about?

There are two types of posts in our blog: either Movie or Article. To see only one type, click on the appropriate Tag under "Which kind of posts?" on the right column of the blog.
The Movie posts are short, consistent and subjective reviews on movies, starting with a poster of the movie and some piece of information like director name or genre.
Short because J&R usually do not take longer than 10 minutes in writing them.
Consistent because there is a systematic method to write a review.
Subjective because it aims at presenting the feelings of J&R about the movie.

Tags are associated to each Movie, so that you can easily filter by year of first release, country of origin, genre or rating.

The Article posts can touch various topics:
  • Events, like movie festivals, meeting with a special person, etc.
  • Viewing movies, like home cinema equipment.
  • Making movies, like cameras.
  • Producing movies.
  • Analysing movies

How do you rate the movies?

Our ratings are purely subjective. We choose a rating system from 0 to 10 (10 being the best one), and we try to stick to the guidelines below when we do our evaluation:
0 Worst movie ever. Cannot even be saved by being involuntarily funny.
1 Very bad movie but that can be saved by being involuntarily funny, or because has 1 or 2 good ideas or characters.
2 Bad movie with many flaws, but could still be watchable.
3 OK movie but a bit long or having one important flaw.
4 Average movie. The goods equal the bads.
5 A bit better than average. Some interesting parts.
6 Good movie. Can be recommended.
7 Very good movie. Would be recommended.
8 Excellent movie. Is recommended.
9 Brilliant movie. You must watch it, but cannot be called a chef d'oeuvre.
10 Chef d'oeuvre.

How to see only the movie reviews for which your gave the highest rating?

Just click on the rating of your choice in the list "Ratings" on the right column of the blog main page. There might not yet be any 10/10...

Do you both review the same movies?

We do not have really the same taste, but we are curious. Therefore this can happen. In that case one of us will create the post, and the other will put his review in the comments. The ratings from both of us will be tagged, i.e accessible from the tag "Ratings".

What is the classification by country?

The Movie Country tag informs about the origin of the movie. If you want to see only movies from a given country, just click on the country acronym in the cloud "Movie Country" on the right column of the blog main page. In this cloud the names written bigger are the ones of the countries the most represented in our reviews.
We use the acronyms of the international vehicle registration, which complete list can be found at this wikipedia page:

What is the classification by genre?

If you want to see only movies of a given Genre, just click on the genre name acronym in the cloud "Movie genre" on the right column of the blog main page. Same as for genres or country. In this cloud the names written bigger are the ones of the years the most represented in our reviews.

Is there a shortcut for a quick view on the Rating or Movie genre definitions?

Yes! Just pass your mouse over the words "Rating" or "Genre" in the movie review and the definitions will pop up. Try it here:
